In the 1980s, out of the demand of plastic materials, the plastic industry in Yuyao started to grow. In 1994, China Plastics City opened, as a kingdom of plastics for Zhejiang and even for the whole country. 20 years later, it became the largest international professional market of plastics of China and China Plastics City has become a name-card of Yuyao, the emerging industrial city.
In the past 20 years, China Plastics City has grown to be a national modernized professional market with over 2,000 companies with over 20,000 commodities, and China’s largest professional market of plastics that integrates the functionality of the sales of crude plastic materials, information releasing, and exhibition of plastic products, plastic machinery, plastic moulds, and plastic accessories. In the past 20 years, It has won such titles as one of the Top 50 Competitive Professional Markets, one of the Top 50 Market with Greatest Brand Value of China, China Creatively Oriented Markets of Means of Production, one of the Top 100 Commodity Market, China Demonstrative Market, and Demonstrative Area of Zhejiang for Modern Service Industries. In the past 20 years, in this county-level city, the transaction volume grows from 145,000 tons to about 8 million tons, and the transaction value grows from 1.599 billion yuan to about 100 billion yuan.
Aiming to improve the public service system and speed up the construction of the service platform, China Plastics City has a standard and qualified management team, it strengthens the comprehensive measures for public security, it introduces various financing institutions, so as to provide the enterprises with comprehensive services in consultation, logistics, warehousing, technology, business, agency, banking and housing and so on.
In 2006, the Plastics Academy of China Plastics City was founded offering such services as R&D, transfer of scientific and technological achievements, standards establishment, and analysis and testing. In 2013, the academy offered over 1,200 consultative services and made 12,000 testing services. Its GDP amounted 0.12 billion yuan, up by 118% year on year. In April 2010, the public service platform of the academy was honored by Zhejiang Provincial Department of Science and Technology as Zhejiang Provincial Innovative Technology Service Platform of Plastics Processing, and this is a support for the integration of science research, production and trade of China Plastics City.
In November of 2012, Yuyao Institute of Weaponry Material Science and Engineering Institute opened. In June 2013, Yuyao Association of Modified Plastics of Yuyao City Plastics Trade Association was established in China Plastics City. It has established a bank for experts of modified plastics, and a database of enterprises of modified plastics.
The Administrative Committee of China Plastics City has cooperated with Shenzhen Development Bank, People’s Bank of China, Bank of Ningbo and Ping’an Bank, and as a result, it offers various financing services and this effectively helps enterprises to solve their financing problem, and expand their developmental space.
In order to expand the trade, in 2004, China Plastics City took a pioneering step by setting up Zhejiang Plastics On-line Market, a global e-business platform, the first one of its kind in the world. For this it became a model e-business platform of plastics business and a model one of the Ministry of Commerce. From January to August 2014, the transaction volume of the on-line market reached 3,263,700 tons, increased by 8.12% year on year, with the total turnover amounting to 35.826 billion yuan, increased by 11.5% year on year.
In March 2013, Zhejiang Yong-Yi Payment was put in operation as the only third party payment platform for the trading and settlement of staple commodities. The platform was developed by Yongyi Electronic Payment Co. Ltd. At present, it provides the domestic e-business industry with the third party payment service, and it is a leader in payment service for staple commodities in China. In the first half of 2014, the net profit reached 1.035 million yuan.
Meanwhile, China Plastics City made efforts to guide enterprises to transfer themselves from low-end production, sales to high-end R&D and production so as to promote the industrialization process. Recently, China Plastics City opened Yuyao Association of Modified Plastics of Yuyao City Plastics Trade Association to offer guidance to the industry and it has built the Binhai Industrial Park of Plastics to attract more enterprises of plastics.
With its distinct features, China Plastics Expo is a great event in the industry of plastics and related industries of China and it is one of the few professional expos in the world. It has been listed in the Top 10 Exhibitions of China, the Best Exhibitions of Brands of China, the Top 10 Exhibitions of Brands of China, and the Golden Finger Prize for Famous Brand Exhibition of China. Over 15 years, the expo has become a world famous expo in the plastic industry of the world. It is now called a Top Exhibition of Plastics of China. The 15th China Plastics Expo in 2013 was listed in the Top 10 Exhibitions of China in 2013, and it is listed in the exhibitions supported by the Ministry of Commerce.
In 2013, the city organized 17 exhibitions, 7 conferences, 10 festivals, and 6 other activities. Statistics show that the exhibition area is as large as 218,000 sq m, with 10,696 standard stalls, and the transaction volume reached 6.323 billion yuan. During the 15th China Plastics Expo, the Research Center of Country-level Conferences and Exhibitions opened.
China Plastics City is to take the opportunity brought up by Zhejiang’s efforts to build an integrated logistic system, carried out the development strategy that integrates the industrial expansion and promotion of the market, and speed up the development of the market that it is multi-functional in trade of raw materials, exhibition of products, dissemination of information, e-commerce, industrial grouping and promoting the industry. It will work to turn it into a center of raw plastic materials, an exhibition center of plastic machinery, a center of information releasing, a price center and a financial settlement center. It will take every means to ensure the leading position of China Plastics City in the plastic industry of China. According to the plan, in the time to come, it will start a number of key projects including the Plastic Modification Industrial Park of China Plastics City, Huicong Industrial City of Home Appliances, and the Industrial Park of E-business.
